2007 Break The Chain Children's Charity Breakathon

Martial Artists Around The World Team Up To Prevent Child Abuse and Attempt World Record

Third Degree Black Belt and Sponsor/Owner of 4th Wall TV & Film Mr. Anthony Miles smashes 8 concrete bricks with a spinning side kick for Arizona News Channel 3 TV.  Just minutes earlier did the same with 10 bricks as part of the world record attempt at the Scottsdale SuperWalMart!

The Arizona Breakathon Children's Charity fundraiser event for Break the Chain Foundation was held in the SuperWalMart parking lot next to John Nottingham's USA Martial Arts in Scottsdale.  "We were very happy with the cooperative partnership with our sponsors, especially SuperWalMart of Scottsdale.  General Manager Terry Butler was very generous in helping us coordinate the event in the center.  The kindness of the sponsors and contributions of USA Martial Arts students and family make it all possible.  They deserve much credit."

Mr. Anthony Miles poses for a quick photo and Arizona News Channel 3 before the break.  This was a new personal record for Mr. Miles.  Not bad for this professional filmmaker who was up all night on a movie shoot but still made time out to contribute.

Broken bricks after the simultaneous world record attempt.  Hundreds of boards and bricks were broken here in Arizona and around the world.  Participating martial artists and breakers hailed from Canada, China, Australia, Spain, Iraq, Korea as well as the USA.  The States of Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington, Florida, Alabama, Nevada, California, New Jersey, and Master Lechtenberg's Break The Chain Foundation headquarters in Sandy Utah.

One very special student participated even though he is on a tour of duty in Iraq with the US Army.  Don Gray, 2nd Degree Black Belt and one of the original students of Master Nottingham, sent in video of his break to do his part.

The dynamic duo of Joe and Jeremy, BootCamp trainers. During the breakathon they announced their highly acclaimed 12 week BootCamp program will be starting soon at each USA Martial Arts location.

"We are very happy with the result.  We exceeded our goal of last year and improved considerably. It is a very positive experience for those of us involved and we hope to see more people next year out for the fun!", said promoter Master John Nottingham of USA Martial Arts.

News coverage showed on Channel 14 of Cox cable on Channel 3TV.  Although they misprinted Master Nottingham's name as "John Knotting", it featured several of the sponsors names including a nice plug for Scottsdale SuperWalMart.

Notice to students:

Medals will be issued on class for students earning specific levels of sponsorships.  Students are encouraged to wear their official Breakathon shirts in class from now until the end of June.  Only 2007 Breakathon shirts will be permitted.  A few limited edition shirts remain.  Suggested donation $25.

The Grande Finale:

A 25 Brick FIRE BREAK

Two stacks of five bricks prepared for Master Nottingham’s simultaneous double downward elbow strikes for the firebreak.

Concealed amidst intense heat and flames, 6th Degree Master John Nottingham prepares for his 25 brick fire break that has him simultaneously breaking ten bricks (two stacks of 5) with his elbows before stepping forward and attacking a stack of 15.

A last second change of wind increased the danger of the break.  He made it through the first 10 with a simultaneous double elbow strike to 5 bricks on the right and 5 on the left.  Forced to wait for a wind change, the intensity of the heat grew but Nottingham didn’t give up.  He attempted 15 and amidst the fire broke 10 on the first strike and had to make a successful second attempt for the remaining 5.

Donations are still being collected.  For more information or Corporate Sponsorship, contact USA Martial Arts at 480.807.0657 or info@usa-martialarts.com.  All proceeds go directly to the local chapter of Break The Chain Foundation and local child abuse charities.
