“Kids Helping Kids”

Charity Show

John Nottingham’s USA Martial Arts was the proud host of the Korean Eagle Taekwondo Demonstration Team from the Dondomoongu District in Seoul, South Korea.  USA Martial Arts partnered with the Team to bring this year's "Kids Helping Kid's" Charity Benefit Show to the valley.  Held at Scottsdale Community College on Saturday, August 16, 2008, proceeds from the show benefited the Midwest Flood Relief efforts and Children's Charities.

Special Guests included Sean McLaughlin, Channel 5 Meteorologist and News Anchor and Scottsdale Mayor, Mary Manross.

The Eagle Team is one of Korea’s premier Martial Arts All-Black Belt Demonstration/Performance Teams.  Headed by Grandmasters Jung Hwan Jin and Chang Joo Park, the Eagles travel the world dazzling their audiences with high flying kicks and amazing feats of board breaking.  The demonstration and show put on by these children, ages 8– 16,  was second to none!  Over 500 boards were broken at the show with high-flying action!  It was an amazing display of great talent, focus, discipline and concentration.  Taekwondo, an Olympic sport featured in the 2008 Beijing Games, is based on traditional Korean Martial Arts, and is one of the world’s most popular martial arts due to its organization, the benefits of confidence, fitness and focus and its trademark spectacular kicking techniques.

On thier visit to Arizona, the Team was featured on KPHO Channel 5 News and KTVK Channel 3 News.   Mayor Mary Manross proclaimed the week of August 13 - August 19 as official Korean Eagle Teakwondo Demonstration Team Week.  While here in the United States, the Korean Eagle Team has performed for thousands of children in public and private schools, at Shriner’s Childrens Hospitals, sporting events and for local Dignitaries and Officials.  Touring around the world, the Team has performed for Her Majesty, The Queen at Buckingham Palace and more.

JOHN NOTTINGHAM”S USA MARTIAL ARTS – CULTURAL EXCHANGE

John Nottingham’s signature school is located in north Scottsdale where the Eagle Team has performed for local school children and the community.  In addition, while visiting, the Team was hosted by USA Martial Arts students and families so they could get a taste of life in the USA.  They visited local attractions, schools and points of interest in the Scottsdale area.

In 1998 and 2000 Master Nottingham lead a team of his students to Korea for a tour, training with the Eagle Team and cultural exchange.  The students had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor and several dignitaries of the Dongdemoongu District of Seoul and gained media attention, appearing on the local news.  There, Master Nottingham and USA Martial Arts was honored with recognition as an official sister school.

In 2007, Master Nottingham and students returned to South Korea to attend the First Taekwondo World Culture Expo and Championship.  Master Nottingham’s students competed in the tournament and took home an impressive 6 Gold Medals.

This is the 6th time master Nottingham has hosted the Eagle team here in the United States.  Past performances have included schools in Arizona, Illinois, Utah, California, Washington, New Mexico and Texas.  Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross attended the 2007 performance as part of the Grand Opening Celebration of Master John Nottingham’s USA Martial Arts of Scottsdale as well as this year's charity show.  Representatives were also invited from the local police, fire and community departments.

Training with members of the Eagle Team

The Korean Eagle Martial Arts Seminars

John Nottingham's USA Martial Arts students had the opportunity to train with members of the Korean Eagle Demonstration Team.  The training was also opened to the public.  After seeing the team perform such high flying action stunts, board breaking and more, the students were excited at the chance to attend the Eagle Team training seminars.

On Saturday, August 16, 2008 - following the Charity Show, the Team Captains and Team Director, Grand Master Jin, conducted special kicking and nunchuck seminars, including tips on improving the student's martial arts skills.

All participants were treated to an impromtu ice cream party and a fun photo and autograph session followed!
